Dennis Wheatley is the sort of author who one likes or dislikes. Most of his books go along at a rapid speed, with many twists and turns which can leave you feeling ragged, but unable to put the book down. Like all Saturday morning matinee Films, there are many cliffhangers, and after nearly everyone of them there is a certain Awwh expressed, but there is a logic and plausibility that can make sense. "They found Atlantis" was one of my favourite, because it was not quite the same sort of adventure as his other series. In a way it stands on it's own with a "pastoral " sense to it. I wonder how much of Jules Verne "Journey to the Centre of the Earth" has been remembered in this book:- surely Dennis has read it.....I must admit I read anything with an Atlantan thread and would have enjoyed this book even if it was B or C class, However, this was a bit better than that. There are some topical parts to it seeing that this was written at least 60 years ago, there is talk of recycling, finite resources, and sustainability. Well worth the read.Product details

Not quite a lost world adventure, but it was an interesting read. Slow start, but as the book progressed it did pick up speed. Would make a good sci-fi movie.
I enjoyed immensely this "classic adventure tale". Read it furiously until the final page.
Yes, they do find Atlantis in this okay thriller from Dennis Wheatley. Not as much fun as his Black Magic books. It feels a bit like a 1950s lost civilization thriller, although that may be a plus considering it was written long before that. Characters are not not deep enough to care much about, both when they are in danger or sexually entangled. Wheatley does get into the Atlantean version of free love with enthusiasm, which may partially explain the book being a bestseller in its day.
I first read this when I was in my early teens, on Holidays at the seaside. At that time liked it very much. Many decades later I find it clichéd and the characters 2D and irritating. It is tailored to a certain audience. Without giving anything away; Gangsters with gats, undersea monsters, explosions, naked promiscuous Atlantians with mental powers (the focus being on the female hotties) , a little moralizing on the sinfulness of MAN, an unlikely romance and......... well I won't spoil it. Probably make a successful movie as all the ingredients have been troweled in, but you'd need popular actors.
