This is a text book of clinical psychiatry that is concise yet comprehensive, up to date, and readily accessible. It aims to be an easy entry to the pertinent facts of clinical psychiatry for medical students and students of mental health disciplines; a resource for established clinicians, including GPs; and also a brief yet thorough overview for the more advanced psychiatric trainee or mental health professional. There is a particular focus on providing simple clinical tips. To effect coherence of approach and minimal overlap between chapters, the bulk of the text has been written by two authors who are experienced psychiatrists with expertise in a broad range of clinical and research areas. Introductory chapters cover the psychiatric interview and mental state and clinical investigations relevant to psychiatry. The second section is an overview of all of the major syndromes of psychiatry, covering epidemiology, aetiology and clinical aspects, and including discussion of specific treatment approaches. A separate section reviews more generally, biological and psychosocial aspects of treatment in psychiatry, with worked case examples.

I highly recommend this book to other med students. It is really easy to read (unlike any other text book), so I actually managed to read it cover to cover in about 4 weeks - it just reads like a novel. It doesn't go into a lot of depth, so occasionally you may want to look something up elsewhere, but it has all the essentials for what you need to know as a med student, and at least you know you're going to actually read it - unlike all the other in-depth books that you never manage to get through. The information is recent and not out-dated. Plus its really small, convenient size makes it easy to carry it around everywhere - it actually fits into a handbag!!Product details

Fantastic book. Very easy to read and gleam information from it. A great starter for medical students undertaking clinical psychiatry training.
I was recommended to get this book for a university course and have found it invaluable as it goes through most topics thoroughly but succinctly. A great reference text for the basics in mental health.
